Researchers have found that high blood levels of a protein, osteopontin, are linked to the development of pleural mesothelioma. Pleural mesothelioma is a rare cancer that develops on the lining of the lungs and is caused by exposure to asbestos.

Cancer Deaths for 2006 are predicted to decline
Cancer deaths for 2006 are predicted to decline compared to 2005 estimates, per the American Cancer Society. This is the first decline in over 70 years as reported by the National Center for Health Statistics. It is still uncertain if the number of yearly cancer death will continue to decline.

After hurricane Katrina, many Louisiana courts are facing the challenge of getting enough jurors for the more than 20 trials scheduled for this month. Normally the Orleans parish sends out 1,500 summonses, but after hurricane Katrina they have had to mail out double that amount.
