For the third time this year, a McLean County, Illinois court awarded an asbestos suit plaintiff a large settlement. The three lawsuits were all lodged against Honeywell International, Inc.

In just over a year, McLean County has ordered Honeywell International, Inc. to pay more than $11 million in settlements for asbestos lawsuits. The three cases brought against the company stated that Honeywell conspired to hide the danger of asbestos present at their work sites. The latest ruling was in favor of the widow of a worker who died of mesothelioma, a form of deadly lung cancer linked to asbestos exposure, in the amount of $850,000. Last month, another widow was awarded $5.5 million after her husband died of the same disease.

Late last year, the first McLean County case against Honeywell ended in the widow receiving $5 million for her husband’s mesothelioma, a result of breathing in asbestos fibers at Bendix Aviation Corp. which was bought out by Honeywell. Three other companies had settled on the current case outside of court for an undisclosed amount of money to the widow. All the lawsuits state that Honeywell attempted to hide the fact that workers were repeatedly exposed to asbestos over the years.
