Asbestos Victims See Little of Settlements

Asbestos lawsuits have become a growing staple of the legal world. So far, more than 700,000 Americans have engaged in asbestos lawsuits, with companies paying out over $70 billion in settlements so far.
For victims of asbestos-related diseases, many times the only option to pay for treatment is through a lawsuit. In the US, 730,000 victims have come forward and engaged in asbestos lawsuits in order to receive compensation for their diseases. Asbestos exposure can result in many forms of diseases, most noticeably those of the respiratory system. Asbestosis, emphysema and mesothelioma, a form of aggressive lung cancer, have all been tied to asbestos exposure, and are most usually the illnesses involved in asbestos-related lawsuits.
In all this litigation, businesses and insurance companies have paid out nearly $70 billion in settlements. Many victims have to wait years in order to receive compensation; sometimes, as with mesothelioma cases, the victim does not live long enough to see the payout. Medical testing, medicine and treatment all add up when it comes to treating asbestos-related diseases, and time is of the essence when it comes to asbestos litigation. Lawyers and legal officials are now looking to make the process smoother and faster, in order to supply help to those who need it quickly.
