New York Site of Asbestos Dig

Kew Gardens has been host to the Environmental Protection Agency for the past few weeks. The search for illegally dumped asbestos is causing residents to become frustrated with the agency.

A development that used to be the site of U.N. residents is now the posh Kew Gardens in New York. Residents of the co-op building there are used to the normal noises of the city, but some have become disgruntled with their new neighbors. The Environmental Protection Agency has been at the site for the last two weeks after suspicions arose over illegal asbestos dumping. The EPA sealed off many of the homes in the area in an attempt to keep the local residents safe, but it has caused more aggravation than anything else.

For two weeks, the EPA has been careful not to reveal why they think asbestos was dumped at the site; they have also not released a date of removal from the area. Most residents in the area are not concerned with asbestos exposure, but are more interested in when the EPA will be leaving. Though asbestos exposure can cause emphysema and a form of deadly lung cancer called mesothelioma, residents are looking at the short-term problems of mail delivery and blocked traffic.
