Contractors Sell Unlicensed Asbestos Work

It is not unusual for a contractor or company to have sales people that are not involved in actual labor. But when it comes to seller repairs and renovations, sales people need to know that asbestos work has to be licensed.

Sales people are supposed to sell their respective product, no matter what field they are in. Often times, contractors will have a person that sells the services for them up front, but has little or nothing to do with the actual work. When the work involves asbestos, however, the sales representatives need to be aware of the product they’re pitching. One man found this out after he decided to bring charges against a contracting company he had hired to replace his roof.

After contacting the roofers to remove his asbestos roof and replace it with new materials, the salesman came to the home and contracted the work, taking a 50% deposit. The homeowner’s check was cashed, but workers did not show up on the allotted day. After many calls, a new salesman came out and offered to put a metal roof on the house for double the price; the man was told that the roofing company was not licensed for installing or removing asbestos roofs. In a case where a hazardous material is involved, it is always best to double check the company contracted.
