Another large settlement has been handed down by a California court in an asbestos-related case. The settlement, at almost $4 million, in one of the largest handed down to one individual plaintiff.
The plaintiff's attorneys will be celebrating a new settlement in one of their asbestos cases. The attorneys were the representation of a family, which were suing Crane Company, an industrial products company. The family alleged that, while working for the Navy, Crane Company repeatedly exposed the affected man to asbestos without care for his health. The man dies in August of mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer that is attributed to asbestos exposure.
The six men and six women of the jury heard how, for decades, Crane Company continued to use asbestos in their manufacturing, even after knowing the material was deadly. The company also did not supply any training or safety gear for those working with the substance. The jury awarded the family $3.9 million, one of the largest asbestos settlements for one plaintiff. The state of California has recently seen more large asbestos settlements in the past year than any other state. The plaintiffs lawfirm is one of the firms that has handled asbestos lawsuits in the state, and was also involved in another large settlement earlier this year.
