A New Jersey Town Hall will still move to a building even after asbestos was found in soil samples. City officials are in discussions to affirm that the move will be complete by November 1st.

What should have been an easy move for the Hammonton Town Hall in New Jersey has now turned into an investigation into Klan activities. Soil samples conducted on the present site of the town’s historical society showed that asbestos was present in large quantities. While preliminary tests had turned up negative, further samples were conducted due to the contractor’s request. Officials are speculating that sabotage may have been the reason for the new test results.

The contractor hired to complete work on the building prior to moving the Town Hall happens to be a minority. Due to threats received at the time the contractor was hired, city officials think that the Ku Klux Klan may have sown the hazardous material in the soil in order to halt work. While the speculation is not confirmed, an investigation has been launched to discover where the new asbestos came from. Abatement has been scheduled for the lot, and renovations are expected to resume by October.
