A chairwoman of the local Republican party in Cayuga County has joined up with a lawsuit allowing parties to sue the county. She states that, since she worked in a building littered with asbestos, she wants the right to sue.
Though she has not had any problems yet, the Cayuga County Republican Party chairwoman has joined the move to protect their right to sue the county. After it was found that the Board of Elections building was riddled with asbestos, some parties that worked on the building, and others that worked in the building, moved to protect their right to sue the county for exposure to asbestos. The suit started when a man working for the county alleged that he was needlessly exposed to asbestos and, in turn, exposed his wife to asbestos.
Asbestos exposure can only happen when the material is disturbed, such as when renovations or demolition is conducted on a building. This stirs the normally harmless material into potentially deadly fibers, which then become airborne and can be breathed in. The result is a couple of different types of respiratory diseases, including mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a form of lung cancer that can takes years to manifest and is often times incurable when detected.
