NY County Taking Action Over Asbestos

A NY county that has recently been under fire over asbestos has taken action to improve their situation. In recent months, a few asbestos lawsuits have come to light involving the county.

After an asbestos scare and a lawsuit stemming from asbestos exposure, Cayuga County in New York has begun to take action against the recent negative exposure. The renovations of the Cayuga County Board of Elections building started the furor after a worker involved in the renovations accused the county of illegally dumping asbestos and exposing himself and his wife to the dangerous substance. Following that accusation, neighbors had complained that the renovations were causing asbestos to be released into the air, putting the public at risk.

The county Legislation has formed a new committee to spearhead all asbestos-related issues, including the abatement of the Elections building and the handling of the current lawsuit. The head of the new board promised residents that the issue would be resolved quickly, and without further danger to the public. The committee is also hoping to settle out of court with the plaintiff in the suit after they acknowledged mishandling the situation. Cayuga County residents are wary, but hopeful, and will continue to observe the actions of the new committee.
