Connecticut Apartments Have Asbestos

A real estate agency has had to halt work on two apartment buildings they are renovating due to asbestos. The concern was raised when it was found that contractors did not thoroughly test for the dangerous substance.

Tests were conducted on the two buildings owned by Antares Real Estate group, but officials are now halting the work over concerns that the testing was not completed thoroughly. The work was stopped earlier this week and will not resume until third-party test results come back clean. The firm believes that all policies were followed for the testing prior to work beginning, but they have decided to cooperate with local health agencies in order to resume work as quickly as possible.

All parts of the buildings that were undergoing major construction were tested for asbestos, a fibrous material that can become hazardous if disturbed. Health officials are concerned, however, that the entire site was not tested. They state that even indirect work in areas containing asbestos can stir up the deadly fibers, and that the entire site should be reviewed. Antares is working with independent testers to clear up the confusion, and resume work on the apartment buildings as soon as possible.
