Asbestos Finder Loves His Job

People may cringe when they hear the word asbestos. But for one man who makes asbestos his life, the process of finding asbestos is all in a days work.

Finding asbestos in a building may be a cause for concern for most people; but Michael Sharp has made a living off it. His official title is an environmental consultant, but his job is to find asbestos and safely remove it if need be. The idea of crawling through small ventilation tubes and going in attics hoping to find a potentially deadly material may sound a little crazy, but Sharp knows that he is doing his job for the public’s safety.

If a homeowner, contracting company or anyone with a building thinks that asbestos might be present, Sharp investigates, tests, analyzes and reports. If asbestos is present, he will draw up a plan of action for removing the hazardous material. As asbestos ages and breaks down, it can be released into the air as fibers, which can be breathed in and cause a slew of health problems. If a building is having renovations done, or even if a strong storm blows through, the potential for danger is there if asbestos is present. That is why, to Sharp, dealing with a deadly substance is all in a days work.
