Residents and neighbors of a New Jersey Housing Authority building are concerned over the discovery of asbestos in the complex. The director of the building claims there is no danger.
Though the Director of Housing Authority says there is no danger involved in the discovery of asbestos in the Long Branch building, local citizens and residents are crying foul. A press conference was held at the site to assure residents that the warning signs, which appeared overnight, are just legality and the presence of asbestos poses no threat. Residents may have only found about the asbestos this week, but the Housing Authority has known about the situation for a month, making the locals even madder about the situation.
A questions-and-answer meeting has been requested after signs reading “Danger. Asbestos. Cancer and Lung Disease Hazard.” Were hung on the boarded up units at Grant Court. Officials maintain that as long as the asbestos is not disturbed that it will remain stable and not pose a threat, hence the signs to warn people not to enter the vacant units. Some people are worried, though, that prior to the signs children and teenagers were seen playing in the boarded-up units and point out that the hazard could have been averted much earlier.
