A demolition site was a cause for small concern when tests showed that the area contained asbestos. Though levels were low, precautions have been taken to secure the site from further disruption.

A site containing a grain elevator was cause for concern when demolition showed low levels of asbestos. The site, which will be the future home of a casino, was secured by the demolition company, and will have measures taken to assure no threat to the public. The EPA was brought in to conduct tests when demolition produced fibrous material, later identified as asbestos. Though other test sites had shown no migration of the asbestos dust, they were tested again to assure public safety.

Low, almost non-detectable amounts of asbestos were found over a small area and were noted as well below the safe level determined by the EPA. An abatement crew cleaned the area affected, and demolition was slated to resume by the beginning of next week. While the public was never in danger, the city and demolition company made the findings public in order to address any future concerns. The site was inspected after residents in the area reported dust blowing toward their building. The dust was later identified as concrete dust, and the demolition company faced a small fine for violating the Clean Air Act.
