A Pembrokeshire natural gas plant was the scene of a mass walk out on May 11th. The workers refused to continue construction until a meeting can be held to address health concerns relating to the use of asbestos at the site.
A liquefied natural gas plant has slowed work on site due to health concerns over asbestos. The slowing comes after construction workers walked off the job last week and refused to return until a meeting is held to address health concerns related to the hazardous material. The workers have requested that showers be put on site to contain the spreading of asbestos dust, while a majority of construction workers continue the work.
The decision to return to work or not will be decided in a nearby car park, and will host the welders, steel erectors and laborers that walked off the site nearly two weeks ago. The issues started when it was discovered that pipes in the cement foundation contained small amounts of asbestos, a hazardous material that can be deadly if inhaled in dust form. A plan for disposal of the material was formed and is being carried out at this time. Dampening and showers will hold the dust down and buses used to cart contractors around will be hosed off regularly.
