Victims of mesothelioma have little time left to battle for compensation. That is why the Secretary of State for Work and Pension has decided to speed up the process of compensation for victims and their families.
A partnership has been put forward by John Hutton, Secretary of State for Work and Pension, to align with insurers to provide faster compensation for those suffering from mesothelioma. Hutton has first hand knowledge of the disease since he spent years in ship building areas when he was an MP. He acknowledges that the time between diagnosis and death for mesothelioma suffers is often short, too short to receive the compensation needed. The benefits often come too late to abate some of the suffering of the victims, leaving their families to battle for the compensation owed.
Mesothelioma is a particularly terrible disease, since sufferers often have the condition for years before diagnosis. A cancer caused by asbestos exposure, the condition is usually fatal resulting in the victim suffocating to death. Compensation is usually paid out to the families, not the victims, due to the lengthy process involved. Hutton hopes that the new process will allow sufferers to receive care until their death, making them more comfortable and providing for their families.
