Continuing troubles for one California courthouse has just gotten worse as more than 150 employees of the building joined together in a lawsuit. Employees of the Salinas Courthouse are stating that contractors put them in danger of asbestos exposure. Contractors working in the Salinas County Courthouse have been routinely plagued by asbestos troubles. From having to shut down parts of renovations to companies quitting their jobs with no notice, attempting to finish the work in the building has been tough. But things got even worse for current and past contractors working on the courthouse this week as 150 employees within the building joined suit to sue over asbestos exposure. The danger is said to have occurred for more then 18 months starting with renovations to the air conditioning system in February of 2005. Initially, three employees of the courthouse had begun a lawsuit regarding asbestos exposure in 2006. All three people, including a judge, displayed respiratory illnesses that can be linked to breathing in asbestos particles. The concern over emphysema, asbestosis and mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer, is very real considering that trapped asbestos fibers in the lungs can lead to all three diseases. Mesothelioma can take years to be diagnosed, but is usually terminal at the time of detection.
