Three people working on a Lennar home building site in San Francisco say that they were retaliated against after they complained about deadly asbestos dust on the site. The people claim that the company did everything in their power to keep them silent. The site of the former Hunters Point Navel Shipyard in San Francisco was supposed to be a great place to build 1,600 new homes. But three employees working with Lennar Homes, the development company, said that they were demoted and slandered when they raised concern over asbestos dust coming from construction on the site. The dust cloud form the site blew over other homes, and even schools, potentially putting thousands of people at risk. Lennar spokespeople say that they allegations are completely untrue, and that this is a case of three disgruntled workers trying to get back at their employer. During construction, asbestos can be cut and ground, resulting in making the material into a fine dust. This dust billows into the sir, where people as far away as a mile can inhale it. Breathing in asbestos particles can lead to emphysema and a form of lung cancer called mesothelioma. Mesothelioma occurs when asbestos dust sticks to the lungs, causing the person affected to slowly suffocate to death.
