Doctors that have treated victims of asbestos exposure in a small Montana town are saying that the company being held responsible is trying to discredit them. More than that, they say the company is trying to close down what may be the towns last resort for treatment.
W.R. Grace and Company is gearing up for a trial over asbestos contamination in a small Montana town by throwing mud on the main witnesses. Doctors that have been treating victims of asbestos exposure are now on the receiving end of some harsh accusations, including the attempt of being discredited as witnesses. The panel of health providers testified at multiple civil trials, which Grace lost and elevated to federal courts. The case is expected to start some time in the fall.
The Center for Asbestos Related Diseases is a nonprofit clinic that has been a sanctuary for those that are affected in the area over the last six years. What could be called the worst case of asbestos contamination in the country, doctors’ records and investigations from the clinic have been crucial in the cases. Grace pays for most of the medical centers costs voluntarily, but has lately made reimbursement harder to obtain for the clinic. The company says that in more than 25% of the cases, medical diagnosis was flawed.
