A West Orange Cove company has accepted the bid to start abatement on a local middle school campus. The board of trustees unanimously accepted the job, to begin after the school year ends in May.
Work will begin in late May to remove asbestos from the main building annex building and weight room by Clean Air Remediation Environmental Services. The abatement will cost just under $25,000 and will remove floor coverings, tiles and thermal insulation shown to contain asbestos. The West Orange company is one of a few demolition companies approved to handle the amount of asbestos projected to be in the school buildings.
The asbestos was found during schedule renovations on the middle school, and were first detected when the carpets were pulled up. Dust found under the flooring appeared to be made up partially of asbestos; the material tested positive for the dangerous fiber. Air quality tests were conducted to assure the safety of the students and faculty, and work was halted until abatement can take place. The company was one of the half dozen companies that had bid on the project.
