Asbestos Fears Grip TV Stars

Actors from the TV show “The Bill” have a new concern besides ratings. The actors may have been exposed to asbestos during taping at the Roundshaw Estate for their show, and need to be tested for asbestos poisoning.

What could be the scene from a TV show has taken place for a couple of “The Bills” stars. After filming on a remote estate for the show, the actors found out they now have to undergo testing for asbestos poisoning when exposed asbestos was uncovered. Buildings in the area were being demolished, and the buildings have tested positive for asbestos, causing the demolition crew to contact the shows producers. Asbestos, often used in old buildings as insulation, can cause deadly mesothelioma if breathed in its fibrous form.

The estate in Wallington was built out of old blocks from the original building from the 1960s. The crew and cast members are now concerned that they have been exposed and infected, due to the repeated filming on the location. A liaison with Sutton Council is carrying out its own investigation after the possibility was brought to the attention of Talkback Thames TV by a tenant of Rounshaw. The tenant works with tile on the estate, which he admits is from the original blocks from the 1960s, and may contain asbestos.
