Two Australian train stations have tested positive for asbestos. The findings forced ticket booking offices to close until further notice.

Traces of deadly asbestos have been detected in two Sydney, Australia train stations, causing a potential health risk and resulting in the closure of all ticket offices. A safety audit was initiated by RailCorp of all its CityRail properties two weeks ago after it was revealed that contractors had disturbed asbestos. The contractors were working at the Eastwood train station in north Sydney. The agitation caused the asbestos in the area to turn into its deadly air born dust form.

Nine stations have been checked for the hazardous material, with traces of the deadly fiber being found at the Edgecliff and Camellia stations so far. The audit prioritized stations where contractors were recently conducting renovations, revealing that fibro sheeting had been disturbed at the two stations. Though air quality tests have come back clear of contamination, dust particles that were tested as a precautionary measure were found to contain traces of asbestos.
