A Cayuga County, NY worker was arrested for a second time in connection with a continuing asbestos dumping case. The man was accused of threatening to kill the worker who brought the asbestos to light.
An official working for Cayuga County was arrested again in conjunction with an asbestos dumping case this week. The official was previously arrested for his part in trying to cover up the illegal handling and dumping of asbestos removed from a county building earlier this year. The man allegedly gave directives to a county worker to remove the asbestos and dispose of it without securing the material, and without letting anyone else know that the substance was asbestos. The worker in turn reported the dumping to the state, which lead to the case against the official.
The county official was reported to have said that, if the worker testifies and he goes to jail as a result of it, that he would put the worker “in his grave.” After the threat was heard, local authorities found the official in his home with handguns and a shotgun. He was arrested on charges of obstructing justice and will be tried separately for those allegations.
