Mt. Sinai School of Medicine will be hosting the second annual Asbestos Awareness Day in New York City on April 1st, 2006. The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) hope to raise public awareness about the dangers of asbestos and the effects of asbestos related diseases.

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization hopes the 2nd Annual Asbestos Awareness Day Conference will provide the most advanced medical, occupational and environmental information available about asbestos related disease to individuals throughout the world. "The focus of this year's conference is to provide the most recent information about the risks, research and treatment options for the incurable asbestos related diseases. With unity, there is hope for a cure,” said Alan Reinstein, President, Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization and mesothelioma victim.

Mt. Sinai is pleased to host the event, which will provide a forum to assess the risks to health and the economic impact of asbestos exposure worldwide. It hopes this will be accomplished with the joint efforts of science, policy and advocacy. While asbestos was acknowledged as a deadly substance, exposure continues in the workplace and in homes, a condition that Dr. Philip Landrigan, Chairman of Mount Sinai's Department of Community & Preventive Medicine, hopes to remedy by awareness. The conference will include notable physicians, scientists, safety and health directors and activists discussing history of asbestos, detecting and treating diseases, enforcement, education and training as well as national and global legislation and victim's support and resources panel
